Abner Nyandege (Ph.D., Virginia Commonwealth University, 2013) is a Research Project Manager at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research. Abner is currently part of a research team that focuses on understanding how to optimize community health systems to improve outcomes for older adults and people of all ages who are living in the community with disabling chronic conditions. Abner is primarily supporting a study funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) on the effectiveness of home health care for older adults and people living with chronic illness using CMS data. He provides statistical programming and analysis and project management support. Abner also extends his support to secondary projects overseen by Dr. Olga Jarrín that uses CMS and/or MarketScan data (Commercial Claims and Encounters, Medicare Supplemental, and Medicaid Databases). Prior to joining the Institute for Health, Abner’s research training focused on older adults undertaking a pharmacoepidemiologic research project using Medicare data. He also had pharmaceutical consulting and industry work experience providing planning, statistical programming, processing and analysis of healthcare claims data (MarketScan and Optum databases) to support health economics and outcomes research.
